Professional team roper Brandon Beers, 27, was virtually raised on rodeo. The son of world champion team roper Mike Beers (1984), Brandon burst onto the scene as a rookie to earn his own spot among the elite team ropers in the world.
“My background is all rodeo and ranching,” said Beers, whose grandparents are cattle ranchers in Kimberly, Ore. Recognizing a great opportunity when he sees one, this top rodeo athlete is anxiously awaiting the chance to head for Jim Ross Cooper when THE AMERICAN hits AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, March 2, 2014.
“It would be outstanding to win THE AMERICAN. I feel very fortunate to have a chance to compete at an event that’s offering the biggest amount of money at a one-day rodeo ever.”
Not only is Beers enthused about roping a win at the inaugural event, he will likely be well-mounted when he gets there having several solid mounts to choose from in an event in which horsepower is crucial to success. “I’m still undecided on which horse I’ll ride there; it just sort of depends on the set up there. If I find out that it’s a faster setup, I’ll probably ride my horse Tivo. But if it’s a longer score, then I will probably ride Jewel, last year’s PRCA/AQHA Horse of the Year. She’s coming off an injury that happened during the NFR, but I hope to have her back by that time.”
Beers has been teamed with Cooper, of Monument, N.M., since June 2013, where a third-place finish at the famed Bob Feist Invitational in Reno put them in the national spotlight. Incidentally, Beers’ horse Jewel was honored as Top Head Horse of the BFI in 2013. The four-time state champion team roper and former rookie of the year and his wife, Kimber, live in Powell Butte, OR.
