The office of the U.S. Trade Representative will turn its attention to India and the European Union to develop the nation’s next trade deals.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue has requested that the EU approve the method that American producers use to sanitize poultry products.
As for India, United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer is scheduled to head to New Dehli on Feb. 10 meet with the country’s Commerce Minister. President Trump will follow up later in the month, arriving on Feb. 23.
India’s status in the Generalized System of Preferences was revoked last year. The program offers duty free trade to developing countries as they try to build up their economy.
A bilateral agreement would give the U.S. more opportunity to export dairy, pork, cherries, hay and more to India.
