Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has recently shown concern over new European trade policies.
The European Union’s “Farm-To-Fork” strategy, which is at the center of the European Green Deal aiming to make food systems fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly, calls for more locally grown agriculture rather than imports.
Perdue says that the action is anti-competitive and does not promote international trade.
“Let the consumer ultimately decide, that’s what we do here in the United States,” he said. “Let your consumer decide if they want these products, they they will buy them. If they don’t, I can assure you our farmers won’t send them.”
Perdue says that even without the $37 billion dollars worth of automobiles coming from Europe, there is still a trade deficit with the United States.
