The measure directs the USDA to work with the Federal Communications Commission to develop a strategy for improving the physical healthcare infrastructure for rural Americans. It also includes a new payment structure for telehealth services.
“The order builds upon a series of actions we’ve all taken to make telehealth available to all,” the President stated. “We ensure that Medicare covers telehealth visits at no additional costs. That’s no additional costs, and co-payments can be waived for telehealth services.”
Another component of the order will work to address barriers for doctor retention and recruitment in rural hospitals.
