The U.S. Department of Agriculture has ordered Colorado to revise its hemp plan.
The “Centennial State” has overseen licensed hemp farmers since launching its pilot program according to the 2014 Farm Bill regulations.
This year, the state licensed 62,000 acres for hemp, more than any other U.S. state. Despite the years working with growers, state ag officials are caught between farmers raising the crop and the emerging oversight of the USDA.
The Colorado Commissioner of Ag Kate Greenberg says “Given the many challenges at the federal level, we are working hard to create a stable and sound regulatory environment so that Colorado’s hemp industry can continue to lead the nation.”
