Clemson University is a land grant university that has had a tremendous impact on agriculture.
Chip Carter spent some time on campus and followed some alumni just to show us how much in our new series “Clemson Reach”. Today, we meet the youngest coach in NCAA history’s to win a National Football Championship, who has now turned into a cattlemen and hemp farmer.
When Danny Ford came to Clemson they made a deal--as long as he stayed at Clemson, the university would buy a farm and give him X amount of acres per year as part of his pay.
Ford was able to obtain a license to produce industrial hemp. In the first year of growing the crop, he found out it was a quality plant to have.
“Everybody had to walk before they run, and that’s kind of what we’re doing in the hemp business right now.”
