As Thanksgiving nears, the potential for smaller gathers and other market factors make turkey demand uncertain.
Production in October was down more than 7 percent year-over-year. Production for the year is down almost 3 percent from 2019, and turkey stocks are down 11.5 percent in September.
Prices for tom turkeys and hens are up nearly 20 percent from a year ago.
Grocery chains are said to be increasing orders for smaller sized turkeys in response.
