The world is close to eliminating a problem in small ruminant production, a major concern in developing countries.
The number of sheep and goat plague outbreaks, or PPR, has fallen by two-thirds in recent years. That is because more than 50 countries are now vaccinating animals.
The Food and Ag Organization had a goal of eradicating PPR by 2030 and it says that it can reach that target.
PPR has a 30-70 percent fatality rate in animals. It does not infect people, but outbreaks do have a severe impact on food security and livelihoods.
