A new piece of legislation would offer some flexibility to livestock haulers.
The Hauls Act would add a 150 air-mile radius exemption to hours of service to the back end of livestock or farm commodity transports. The current rules require ten consecutive hours of rest after eleven hours of drive time.
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association backs the bill saying that this exemption would protect animal health and welfare.
