USDA is looking into the challenges black vultures pose for ag producers.
Unlike the rest of the world, here in America, the number of black vultures is increasing. They are unique because they are bolder and more aggressive than other scavenger species.
According to National Wildlife Research Center’s Bryan Kluever, “With that more bold behavior have come documentation on black vultures preying on newborn cattle, lamb, piglets, and other species of domestic animals. How often this happens versus it being an incident of it being a stillborn, which does happen with agricultural animals, that’s the really tough nut to crack.”
Black vultures can go after adult animals too, especially week ones.
