Tyson Foods is getting into the “alt shrimp” business.
Its venture called “New Wave Foods” will start distributing a shrimp alternative made of seaweed and plant proteins to restaurants and food service companies. The plant-based shrimp was created by top chefs and R&D experts.
New Wave says that it is virtually indistinguishable from ocean shrimp in terms of taste, texture, and bite. It plans to expand to other plant-based shellfish like lobster and scallops next year.
