India’s farmers say they won’t stop protesting to end new agriculture laws. Thousands have camped on major highways for more than five months, demanding a repeal of new laws they say will hurt local farmers. The protests have been mostly peaceful, but at times turned violent.
In recent weeks, there’s been some concern over rising COVID-19 cases. However, Rakesh Tikait, leader of one of the largest unions tells Reuters, “We have religiously followed coronavirus guidelines, and we have drawn up plans to stay put until at least November and December, or even beyond that if the government doesn’t listen to us by then.”
