Farmers on the West Coast are sending a warning about worsening drought conditions.
The California Farm Water Coalition released a map highlighting the severity of water supply cuts. Million of acres of irrigated land have seen water supply cuts as high as 95 percent.
Roughly 80 percent of the nation’s fruits, vegetables and nuts are grown in regions with water supply cuts.
This mirrors a situation in 2015 that saw 500,000 acres go uncultivated that resulted in an economic loss of about $3 billion.
The Farm Water Coalition is calling for more investments in infrastructure so they can capture more water in the wet years.
