Persistent drought means cow-calf producers may need to make some decisions about culling.
The dry weather has forages and feed stuffs in short supply, so the North Dakota State University Extension says that this could be a good time to get rid of older cattle, or open and thin cows, and even that ornery one that causes all the problems.
The extension office recommends considering traits you want to encourage to develop a strategic culling plan.
It adds that producers should consider including bulls in those plans.
