We are getting new insight on the shipping container issue and it is not just a problem on the open seas.
Union Pacific Rail System is so backed up around Chicago, it has been refusing to carry containers inland from west coast ports for at least a week.
The Journal of Commerce says that it is causing even further delays, and is yet another setback in the supply chain.
This comes as the prices to ship a container overseas has more than tripled and less than 40 percent of global container ships are making it to their destination on time. Additionally, USDA data shows 18 out of 23 specialty crop markets are seeing a truck shortage.
