House lawmakers will return early from vacation one week from today to take up the trillion dollar infrastructure package. They will also consider the budget resolution passed by the Senate last week.
If passed, each state covered under the broadband expansion would get $100 million dollars to build out their fiber networks, but getting material could be difficult.
“I’m being told by my folks that are being told by the large fiber manufacturers, that there’s a 62 to 71 week waiting period to get access to fiber technology,” according to Rural Broadband Association CEO Shirley Bloomfield.
Sen. Chuck Grassley says that a lot of moving parts have to fall in the right places for the measures to pass. Speaker Pelosi wants to tie both efforts together, but at least nine Democrats say that they will not vote for the budget measure until infrastructure is passed.
