USDA’s Deputy Secretary says that she is working to make sure the ag industry represents America’s diversity.
Ewel Bronaugh spoke at the Women in AgriBusiness Summit and highlighted the importance of getting involved in USDA programs.
She says that the department is working to include young people, women, and farmers of color. She also hosts a Women in Agriculture Mentoring network to share success stories.
According to the Deputy Secretary, “The goal is really to promote the image role in leadership of women not only on the farm, but leading youth organizations. Conducting cutting-edge research at universities across the country in the board rooms of global corporations and elsewhere. According to the most recent USDA 2017 census of agriculture, women now make up 36 percent of the total population of U.S. farmers. We are running the game.”
She also encouraged women to get involved in county farm service agency boards to ensure their voices are heard in local decision making processes.
