Smithfield fined $13,494 for failing to protect workers from COVID

Smithfield Foods will pay a fine of more than $13,000 dollars for failing to protect workers from COVID-19.

An OSHA rep says that the company will also make sure that employees receive training and protective measures necessary to prevent future outbreaks.

A panel of Smithfield officials and independent experts will develop a preparedness plan, but the current COVID plan will be used in the interim. Smithfield reported nearly 10,000 infections and 25 deaths.
