You may be preparing to preserve food at home this year and the University of Georgia has a few tips to make sure you avoid getting sick!
Health departments reported more than 240 cases of illness related to not storing food properly in 2018. The university recommends following information from the National Center for Home Food Preservation as well as the USDA for best practices.
Determine the proper canning method based on the food you are using, and when in doubt, throw it out.
Never taste food to determine if it is safe to eat. Some of the most serious bacteria, like botulism, does not impact taste.
