If your dairy is infested with thousands of over-wintering starlings, modern technology can help you get rid of them.
Farmers in the Pacific Northwest are using predatory drones with motion sensors to scare off the birds, which can cause millions of dollars worth of damage.
“I thought that that was super neat because it’s something that after they make the initial investment, it’s more of a peace of mind thing too,” USDA Wildlife Services’s Stephanie Shwiff states. “That drone is working properly. It’s working 24/7. It goes out, it chases a mob, it comes back, it waits, charges, it goes out it chases a mob.”
She admits that artificial intelligence can be a little scary but it works.
