Most crops are still growing in the ground, but winter and wheat harvest is underway!
USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says that the winter wheat harvest is just about done as far north as Nebraska. He says that just a few far northern states have crops left in the field. Nationwide, 86 percent of the U.S. winter wheat was in the bin by August 7th. That is five points behind the five-year average.
According to Rippey, “Harvest is underway in five of the six major production states. Nationally, 9 percent harvested on August 7th, well behind the five-year average of 19 percent, even further behind last year’s drought-ravaged crop-- 35 percent complete this date a year ago.”
A reminder that in yesterday’s Crop Progress Report, spring wheat conditions dropped six points to 64 percent in the good to excellent range.
