California’s Santa Barbara County is weighing its options when it comes to farmworker wages.
At a recent meeting, the County Board of Supervisors heard from farmworker non-profits advocating for increased minimum wages.
The minimum wage for farmworkers in California is currently $15.50 an hour, one of the highest in the country.
The non-profits want that to be bumped to $26.
They cite rising costs of living as well as the dangerous conditions farmworkers navigate as reasons for the drastic increase.
