A petition has been filed and is calling for a pause on Colorado wolf reintroduction

A petition has been filed to stop any further introductions of gray wolves into Colorado.

It calls for a delay until the state finds ways to address conflicts between the already-released wolves and livestock producers.

Twenty-six organizations signed the petition calling for a clear definition of chronic depredation as well as mandated lethal take requirements.

The state is set to release more wolves this winter, a year after the first release.
The initial costs were estimated at $800,000 annually, but to date the program has cost $5 million.
