A man born and raised in Vidalia, Georgia did not visit any of the famous onion farms until his late teens.
Aries Haygood now owns his own operation.
Haygood says growing up in Vidalia he could always use his hometown as an icebreaker because people knew that’s where Georgia’s onions were grown.
Haygood’s father-in-law, Terry, farmed for 35 years growing onions and one day, he told his wife he would really like to be a part of the onion farm.
From there, he was welcomed with open arms and his wife and father-in-law showed him the ropes. Last August, a deal was completed and Haygood and his wife acquired the farm.
“We just have hit the ground running,” he said. “We know it’s a challenge.”
