Aquaculture could be the key to global food security.
This is possible if efforts can be stepped up to ensure that future development of the industry is inclusive, efficient, and sustainable.
The Food and Agriculture Organization says the key to this is small-scale fishers and fish farmers. It recognizes these operations could play a vital role in providing food amid certain global challenges making it difficult for farmers on land.
The FAO also says in order to achieve the goal of increased global food security, resources must be managed responsibly and the best science must be utilized.
