Dairy-beef crosses are more efficient in feedlots, according to research

Feedlot research has found a way to add value back to dairy farmers.

Studies by Michigan State University found dairy-beef crosses are more efficient in feedlots than Holsteins. Researchers tell Brownfield Ag News they studied economics as well as carcass differences between straight-bred Holstein steers and beef-sired Holstein steers.

They found beef-cross steers require fewer days on feed, harvesting nearly three weeks sooner, saving the farmer money.
