The ag exemption for trucking is set to expire on September 30th.
It covers electronic logging devices and hours of trucking service. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is pushing Congress to keep those exemptions as the industry works to recover from coronavirus disruptions. Executive Director of Government Affairs Allison Rivera is trying to get something permanent into the next appropriations bill.
“It started out as a 30 day by 30 day extension of this emergency declaration and I will say it started out very broad and they have continued to kind of shrink it down but the one area that they haven’t shrunk down too much is livestock feed and live haul,” she said. “We’re very grateful that we continue to talk to FMCSA about that fact that we have a backlog that we need to work on and we need that flexibility.”
