The clock is ticking down for a deadline that has a big impact on the renewable fuel industry as well as growers.
The EPA has until the last day of October to finalize renewable fuel standard volumes for 2026, but a recent agenda by the White House shows it will not be considered until next March, with a likely finalization next December; however, these dates are not set in stone.
Geoff Cooper with the Renewable Fuels Association says the potential delay could hurt biofuel producers. Senator Chuck Grassley says the delay will hurt rural communities and the overall economy.
This would not be the first time the deadline was missed. An analysis by DTN shows there have been multiple volume delays dating back to 2005. It happened several times during the Obama Administration, and then in 2020, the Trump Administration did not set volumes for 2021. The Biden Administration did the same delay later that year.
