Forever Farms: Pennsylvania protects almost 14,000 acres of farmland from development

Pennsylvania is looking to protect valuable farmland in the state by declaring them as “forever farms.”

The state’s Farmland Preservation Program recently invested $10 million dollars in purchasing the rights to nearly 3,000 acres of farmland across thirteen counties, protecting them from future development.

The state’s Agriculture Secretary says that saving farmland for food, rather than losing it to warehouses and urban sprawl, will help farmers compete with developers.

This year, Pennsylvania preserved 167 farms consisting of nearly 14,000 acres of land.
