As the science of genetic editing becomes more accurate and precise, the genetic editing of animals has become a more common practice.
The pork industry is a big supporter of gene editing and wants proper regulations to insure that safe scientific practices are conducted. The veterinarian for the National Pork Producers Council, Dr. Liz Wagstrom, would like the supervision of genetically edited animals to be done by the USDA and not the FDA. Dr. Wagstrom says that genetically edited livestock are real animals and are safe and nutritious for human consumption.
