The Interior Department kicked off its long-term planning process for the Colorado River.

The Bureau of Reclamation says that they are committed to helping guide the next era of the basin, especially as drought conditions continue but the planning process may be the hardest thing in the history of both their organization and the waterway.
The bureau plans to have a draft proposal ready by late next year.

The Colorado River provides water to 40 million individuals including 5.5 million acres of farmland.
