High-Path Avian Flu has now affected 15 state’s dairy herds

15 states now confirm High-Path Avian Flu in dairy herds.

Utah’s Ag Department says eight commercial dairies in the state have been affected, and all dairies with sick animals have been put under quarantine. No lactating cows from those facilities are allowed to travel. Officials have also asked the affected facilities to ramp up their biosecurity measures.

This comes after the virus once again jumped species. Just this week, APHIS confirmed a pig at a backyard farm in Oregon had contracted the virus. Five pigs and 70 birds at the facility were culled to prevent further spread. The news had little impact on the markets, and pork groups stress that the food supply remains safe.
