Dairy cows in five U.S. states have died naturally or been culled due to HPAI.
A report by Reuters indicates that avian flu outbreak in cows may have a larger economic impact than anticipated in the farm belt. While farmers typically cull infected poultry, the higher cost of raising cows compared to chickens or turkeys add to the concern.
11 states have now confirmed cases of HPAI with the latest in Minnesota. Earlier this week, Iowa became the 10th state to confirm the virus. Both cases come after several weeks with no new reports. The latest was Colorado back in April.
