Hurricane Milton poses a direct threat to Florida’s fertilizer industry

Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton took aim at Florida’s phosphorus industry. Assessments are still being done, but analysts warn there could be delays further down the road.

“Whenever we talk about North American phosphate production, we’re really talking about the state of Florida now. That’s not to say that’s where everything is produced, but I think the last time we ran the numbers, slightly over 60% of the phosphate produced within North America comes from the state of Florida. So, the major supplier to this entire marketplace,” said Josh Linville with StoneX.

Linville told Market Day Report that all of this comes as farmers prepare for their fall fertilizer applications. However, it could take several days to get the full scope of the damage to fertilizer plants in the Sunshine State.
