Most farmers know their land like the back of their hand, including any trouble spots.
One digital ag company is trying to put that knowledge to paper, by mapping every inch of growing space.
“As we produce these maps, we’ll often find that folks will say, ‘Well, okay, oh yeah, you got all the spots I knew about. I keep forgetting about that one,’ and we find it depends on a couple of things. So the size of the farm is one thing, as the farm gets big, it’s harder to keep track of. And then there’s another interesting phenomenon, which is, it’s not usually everybody who works on the farm, who knows where those weeds are. If you would like a hired person to come in and do this, they won’t know where those are. It makes it a lot more systematic that way,” said Dr. Greg Stewart.
