The Christmas season is officially here and it was kicked off by the lighting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, with a few special guest appearances.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Capitol Christmas Tree Essay contest winner, nine-year-old Rose Burke lit the tree. The 80-foot Sitka spruce traveled more than 4,000 miles from its original home in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest to Washington, D.C.
This year marked the beloved tradition’s 60th anniversary.
