American potato farmers are celebrating a trade move by Japan. According to Washington Potatoes, the country announced it will drop the 2.1% tariff on frozen french fries, which was one of the provisions under the U.S. Japan Trade Agreement.
The Washington Potatoes group says, “tariff-free access to Japan for U.S. fries will therefore support the continued growth of exports to the market.”
In 2020, Japan was one of the largest markets for U.S. frozen fries with an export value of $268 million.
