JBS USA announced Monday it will reduce beef production after a manager displayed flu-like symptoms.
This marks the first time a U.S. meat plant has closed due to coronavirus concerns.
JBS USA did not specify how much production would be cut or whether employees would be tested for coronavirus. The closed down plant has over 1,000 employees, making it the largest beef facility east of the Chicago.
The plan is to be back in full force on April 14.
According to a statement, the facility will continue to run “fabrication and ground beef operations.”
