Last night’s North Lights could potentially impact producers’ operations

Severe solar storm watches have been issued across North America.

The major disturbances in Earth’s magnetic field are measured on a scale of one to five, and this week rose to four.

The geomagnetic event caused colorful displays of the Northern Lights from as far south as Alabama and as far north as northern California. However, the beauty comes with serious implications, potentially impacting satellites, farmer GPS systems, and communication for hurricane relief efforts.

Infrastructure operators were warned this week by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center.
