Lawmakers face a to-do list this week and it includes issues facing farmers

Washington, D.C. is buzzing this week as lawmakers work to finish what they can before the session is over.

Talks are still ongoing for an emergency aid package for farmers. Later today, USDA’s new farm income forecast could give supporters some numbers to back their case. Farm Bill talks are still on the table, with most lawmakers expecting another extension until the next Congress. Then on Thursday, the Senate will hold a hearing on the future of the FDA, the first major talk since President-elect Trump gave Robert F. Kennedy Jr the nomination for Health and Human Services Secretary.

Also on the Hill this week is Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. They were tapped by President-elect Trump to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency. They are set to meet with lawmakers this week on areas they think could be trimmed. Senator Joni Ernst says she already has a list for the pair tasked with cutting government waste. There is no word on when that meeting will take place.
