In less than a month, Mexico’s ban on biotech corn for human consumption will go into effect, but the current administration will leave office later in the year. It is a move Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack hopes will open the door to more scientific talks.
“The two candidates for president, the leading candidate, is a scientist. My hope and belief is that as a result of a new administration, they will take a look at the science, take a look at the fact that they are reliant on the U.S. for yellow corn and that the relationship with the U.S. is important.”
While in Dubai for the COP28 Summit, Vilsack again brought up the issue with Mexico. Their current administration leaves office at the end of next September.
