Maine is warning hunters of potential PFAS contamination in wild deer and turkey

Maine is now asking hunters to avoid eating deer and turkey harvested from some areas due to PFAS contamination concerns.

The department says that sampled wildlife in the area were found to have levels that warrant an advisory.

PFAS, otherwise known as forever chemicals, are known to persist long-term in the environment and are also linked to cancer and low birth weights.

Maine is not alone, states like New Hampshire, Michigan, and Wisconsin have also issued consumption advisories warning hunters of PFAS contamination in deer.
