Lawmakers have reintroduced the Dairy Pride Act, which aims to clear consumer confusion around dairy foods and plant-based products by enhancing accurate labeling information.
Alan Bjerga with the National Milk Producers Federation says the main goal of the legislation is to keep the heat on the FDA to follow their own rules about enforcing existing dairy standards of identity.
“The rules are there as to what a dairy product is and what it isn’t,” he said. “The issue we’ve had for four decades is lax enforcement of these terms which is becoming a big deal.....This basically is a congressional prod for FDA action.”
