NCBA claps back at proposed electronic ear tags for cattle

National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is also responding to a proposed rule surrounding electronic identification for moving cattle.

USDA is set to require visual and readable electronic ID tags for the interstate movement of cattle and comes after several outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease.

NCBA President-elect Todd Wilkinson says bold action is needed to control the problem, but ID programs should be voluntary, mainly due to the added financial burden on producers.
