New Jersey looking to pass a bill similar to Prop-12 regarding pregnant pigs and gestation stalls

In New Jersey, lawmakers are looking to pass legislation similar to California’s Prop-12 by banning individual gestation stalls for pregnant pigs.

It will require the state’s Department of Ag to enforce pork producers allow 24 square feet of space for each pregnant sow.
Unlike Prop-12 however, it would only apply to producers in the Garden State.

The bill passed 36-1 and will be sent to the state’s governor who is expected to sign it.
