New legislation will ensure products labeled as “eggs” come from actual birds

Lawmakers in Washington recently introduced the “Consistent Egg Labels Act,” a bipartisan bill to define egg labels.

Efforts are underway to make sure any food products labeled as “eggs” come from an actual bird.

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst shares more about the Consistent Egg Labels Act.

“To kind of push back against this non-ag, vega, or plant-based products that are calling themselves ‘eggs.’”

Senator Ernst says transparency is needed in these products. The North Central Poultry Association praises this legislation, saying the alternatives to eggs do not match in nutrition, functionality, and taste.
