No Relief In Sight: Two Midwest states are facing drough conditions as #Harvest24 wraps

Wisconsin has now found itself in need of water with a majority of the state now facing some form of drought.

Relief is nowhere in sight.

The state’s climatologist says that the next two weeks are set to be especially dry, and while the current conditions make for an easy harvest season, a lack of soil moisture is beginning to spark concerns for next year. The climatologist says that once you reach late fall and winter, whatever soil moisture is in place at that point locks in and that is ultimately what you are stuck with come spring next year.

Wisconsin is not alone.

Minnesota is also looking quite dry. While the growing season began with a wet spring those conditions quickly dried up as the season progressed.
However, it is not all bad news, one grower tells Successful Farming the dry weather has allowed her to save money on the cost of drying this season’s corn.

Wind knocking over plants and field fires has still been top of mind. As harvest looks up, she says she is hopeful for a normal snow pattern this year just to prove they can get much needed precipiation.
