North Carolina is the latest state to confirm a case of High-Path Avian Flu in a dairy herd, bringing the total number of states with similar infections to 7.
The state’s Department of Agriculture says USDA’s National Lab was able to confirm the virus sometime yesterday. The state’s Agriculture Commissioner mentioned that they have spent several years developing methods to handle HPAI in poultry. However, this situation is new, and they are currently working to develop protocols to address it.
North Carolina’s confirmation marks the seventh state with dairy herds to contract the virus. Texas and Kansas were among the first, with Michigan, Idaho, New Mexico, and Ohio all confirming similar cases.
