It has been nearly two months since Hurricane Helene made landfall in the southeast devastating rural communities in several states.
We are still learning more about its impact, but one ag company alone lost $8 million to the storm.
Pilgrim’s Pride, one of the world’s largest poultry producers, says that its facilities near Live Oak, Florida and Douglas, Georgia were in the path of Helene’s destruction. The company says that many of their chicken houses were demolished, and many farmers were without electricity for days.
Pilgrim’s Pride is helping communities financially and is calling on the government for grower support.
Pilgrim’s Pride is not the only company looking to help.
Stuckey’s has been a Georgia-grown company since 1937, and with many of their pecan growers impacted by Hurricane Helene, they are taking action this holiday season to help.
They have launched Stuckey’s Helping Hands Pecan Halves. The limited edition product includes one-pound bags of large pecans. For every case purchased, $24 will go towards Weathered But Strong supporting the Georgia Farm Bureau’s hurricane relief efforts.
