Poverty rate for rural children under 5 years old is highest of any group, USDA study says

A USDA study is looking into poverty rates in rural America.

The Department says the poverty rate for rural children under five years old is more than 20 percent, which is the highest of any age group in rural and urban areas.

46 million people lived in rural communities last year, making up nearly 15 percent of the U.S. population. Six million of those residents are considered at, or below, the national poverty line.
